Spooky season is upon us, and we all know what that means. The leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp, and the trees are bare. It’s time for people to start getting into their Halloween spirit! What better way to get into the Halloween spirit than diving into what makes this holiday so special?

Halloween is an ancient and wonderful holiday that has been celebrated for centuries. The tradition of dressing in costumes, going from door to door for candy, and even carving pumpkins is steeped in folklore from around the world and seems to grow in popularity as time goes on. Though the origins of Halloween are unknown, there are many folktales and legends that are connected to this spooky Holiday.

Stingy Jack was a cruel and evil man in both life and death. The legend of Stingy Jack talks about a man who went out of his way to trick the Devil. At first the Devil admired how evil he was but it wasn’t long till he got sick of Stingy Jack’s malicious nature and constant pranks. This is when the Devil found a punishment most fitting for Jack’s restless soul.

From Ireland to German to America this headless rider is known as a symbol of death and doom and finds its way lurking through the forest on his trusty steed during a harvest moon.
